Palliative Care

Affordable Health Care for Terminally Ill Patients

Palliative Care enhances a person’s quality of life while they are dying and supports their family/whanau. It is not only about physical wellbeing, or hauora tinana, it’s also about social, emotional and spiritual elements of wellbeing – whanau, hinengaro and wairua.

Rotorua Area Primary Health Services (RAPHS) wants to make it easier for Rotorua’s terminally ill patients to afford medical and nursing care as well as the special medications needed to sustain quality of life, and wants to support these patients to receive care in their home with their whanau for as long as possible.

That’s why there is a special Palliative Care Programme that makes Doctors and Nurses’ visits, medicines and other services much cheaper for patients with a terminal illness.

Ask your Doctor, Pharmacist or visiting Nurse about the programme and how it might help you.
