Confidential sexual health care and contraception
Rotorua Area Primary Health Services (RAPHS) tries to make it easy for Rotorua people of all ages to access sexual health care and/or birth control advice. Our GPs and nurses provide a range of confidential clinics and services as well as manage programmes to give people more affordable long-term contraception choices.
Long-term contraception
To enrol a patient in the long-term contraception project, funded by Health Rotorua, they must meet the following criteria:
- Resident in the Rotorua region
- Family lives in a NZDep area 8, 9 or 10 or in circumstances that mirror deprivation
- Family has a CPAC score of >50 (the same criteria GPs complete when referring a patient for a tubal ligation at the hospital)
Generally, eligible clients live in a Quintile 4 or 5 area (we are able to check address eligibility on Geo Scan programme) or live in an environment where some of the following factors are at play: low income, unemployment, poor access to communication (i.e. no phone), poor access to transport (i.e. no car), limited qualifications, renting, large number of people living at the address.
For more information, refer to RAPHS Contract Practice Manual or contact Clincial Co-ordinator Miranda, phone 07 349 3563.
